The Department of Education launched the new online platform “Parent University”, in which parents and guardians can learn how to help their children better cope with the challenges of remote learning.
“In these unprecedented times, it is so important that we be creative and find ways to reach every home and strengthen our communities,” said Acting Vice Chancellor for Community Empowerment, Partnerships and Communications Adrienne Austin.
Parents can access nearly 100 prerecorded classes on the portal in multiple languages on topics such as education and technology, health and wellness, special education, multilingual learners, early childhood education, leadership, as well as adult and continuing education. Interested parents must create a free account before they can access lessons, events, or workshops.
The platform also provides the latest news on public schools during the pandemic.
“We know that our families are busier than ever, that is why this platform is designed to help parents from where they are (…) We will continue to add resources that support, involve and educate our families throughout the year” said Chancellor of Schools Richard Carranza.
