United States offers COVID-19 vaccines to Senegal

United States offer COVID-19 vaccines in Senegal

Embassy of the United States in Dakar has the pleasure to announce the arrival of 151,200 doses of COVID-19 vaccine Johnson and Johnson Janssen offereds by the United States government. This important donation and timely is part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s overall efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. The vaccines offereds are part ofe the United States’ engagement at initially provide at least 15 of the 80 million doses globally to Africa. The US government has closely coordinated country allocations with the African Union and Africa CDC. Vaccine doses will arrive through the COVAX initiative in Dakar, July 20 2021.

This donation will protect the Senegalese people from the ravages of the COVID-19 virus and begin to remove obstacles to the reconstruction of the Senegalese economy.

“Long before COVID-19 posed a threat to the world, the US government worked with Senegal to support the health of Senegalese. The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) from the United States a built the Senegal Crisis Operations Center (COUS) which served as the headquarters for the management of the COVID-19 crisis. Since the start of the pandemic, our team of Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is on the front line with the Ministry of Health to help and advise the Ministry on best practices to deal with the pandemic.

USAID has provided Senegal with more than 4 billion 700 million ($ 8,132,000) to slow the spread of the virus, mitigate its impact, strengthen disease surveillance efforts, improve care for those affected and pave the way for mass vaccination campaigns. Mushingi said. “The United States is proud to be the largest donor to the global COVAX initiative against COVID-19.”

These 151,200 doses are part of the Biden-Harris administration’s commitment to share the U.S. vaccine supply with the world.
