Health officials from U.S on Thursday extended the suspension of cruises until the end of September, as coronavirus infections increase in most states of the country, including Florida.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that they would extend a no-navigation order that was due to expire on July 24.
The main cruise lines belonging to an industry association had already canceled the trips until September 15 due to ongoing discussions with federal authorities on how to safely resume activities.

Coronavirus cases are on the rise in 40 states of the country, and the number of daily deaths has increased more than 20% since a week ago. Florida, where many cruise trips start and end, reported nearly 14,000 new infections on Thursday and set a record 156 COVID-19 deaths in a single day, beating the previous high of 132 deaths reported Tuesday.
From March 1 to July 10, there have been nearly 3,000 cases of COVID-19 or similar illnesses and 34 deaths on cruise ships, according to the CDC. There have been 99 outbreaks covering 80% of vessels in US waters, the agency added.
Major shipping companies try to save cash and raise more money in private credit markets to survive the pandemic. Last week, Carnival Corp. said it expects to spend about $ 20 million a day for the rest of the year.
