France welcomes the commitment of the United States not to carry out destructive anti-satellite tests (ASAT) fired from the ground.

This initiative indeed contributes to the effort that brings together a growing number of States to promote standards of responsible behavior that will increase security and stability in space. This is the objective of the International Working Group on Space at the Conference on Disarmament and Exchanges which will be held at the United Nations in May.

France, which has never carried out such tests, will continue to plead for a legally binding universal norm prohibiting such actions.
