The armed conflict in Sudan has continued since its outbreak in April this year. A large number of Sudanese people have been displaced and lost their basic living security. On August 3, local time, the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan issued a statement urging both parties to the conflict in Sudan to immediately stop all military operations, resume ceasefire negotiations in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and peacefully resolve the current crisis facing Sudan.

In its statement, the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan expressed serious concern about the impact of the armed conflict on the Darfur region in western Sudan, condemned the exchange of fire that caused great damage to local public facilities and caused civilian casualties, and called on both parties to the conflict to ensure the safety of civilians.

Conflict exacerbates food security crisis in Sudan

Also on the 3rd, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations warned that as the armed conflict in Sudan spreads and the economic recession it triggers intensifies, there is an urgent need to provide emergency relief to rural communities in Sudan and strengthen humanitarian assistance.

According to the latest forecast, between July and September this year, about 20.3 million people in Sudan will face severe food insecurity, accounting for about 42% of the country’s total population, nearly double the number compared to last May. It is estimated that about 15 million people in Sudan may still face severe food insecurity from October this year to February next year, the worst food insecurity situation in the country during the harvest season on record. In response to the crisis, FAO launched an emergency seed distribution campaign to distribute seeds to more than 500,000 Sudanese farmers during the planting season to alleviate the food security problems of the Sudanese people.Return to Sohu to see more
