Unique images: NASA makes timelapse of 10 years the sun in one …

The sun, billions of years old and the center of our galaxy – and since today also the star of a beautiful video made by NASA. With ten years of footage and a total of some 425 million photos, the space agency made a fascinating timelapse of a complete solar cycle.

For ten years, a picture was taken of the sun every hour, which they stitched millions of pictures together to ball all the images together for one hour. More than 20 million gigabytes of data was collected by the Solar Dynamics Observatory. In addition to these beautiful images, this also led to many new discoveries about the effect of the sun.

The video shows several major changes that the sun sets during its solar cycle, a period of approximately 11 years. The north and south poles of the star alternate, and several sunspots emerge as the sun’s magnetic fields change. There are also different solar eclipses to see if the planet Venus orbits around the sun.

Sometimes a black frame also appears and that is the fault of our own earth. The SDO hangs between the sun and the earth and when the earth passes between the sun and the satellite, no picture of the sun could be taken. The satellite will remain stationary until 2030.
