Union Home Minister Amit Shah Misled People on Electoral Bond Controversy: BJP Received Rs 8,252 Crore

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has misled people on the Electoral Bond issue. Shah’s argument was that the BJP received only Rs 6,000 crore through electoral bonds. But actually the BJP got Rs 8,252 crore through bonds.

The Union Minister’s claim was made at a media conclave organized by India Today. Between March 2018 and January 2024, bonds worth Rs 16,492 crore were redeemed, SBI data shows.

Out of this 16,492 crores, 8,252 crores have been received by the BJP. It is clear that BJP does not have half of the money collected by SBI through bonds.

Between 2018 and 2023, the BJP has received Rs 1,245 crore through electoral bonds. This is nine times the amount received by the Congress.

India Today reported that Shah refused to give a clear answer on allegations that several firms bought electoral bonds under the watch of the Income Tax Department and the ED.

Also, Amit Shah reacted for the first time against the Supreme Court’s verdict canceling the electoral bond. Shah’s response was that instead of canceling the project, it should be improved

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court again issued a notice stating that the information disclosed by SBI in the electoral bond was incomplete. Chief Justice D.Y. said that the order clearly stated that all the information should be made available by March 12. A bench headed by Chandrachud said. The court said that the documents provided by the Election Commission can be returned and the complete information must be published by March 17.
