Emoji fans have to be patient until new symbols and faces appear again. The Unicode consortium, which is taking care of the expansion, is taking a break because of the corona pandemic. There will be updates again in 2022, but the emojis already announced for this year will still appear.

However, the expansion of the emoji scope planned for 2021 will be postponed to 2022, the president of the Unicode consortium, Mark Davis, said in one blog entry With. He justified the step because the delay is due to the fact that the volunteers who deal with the issue are currently overwhelmed by the pandemic.
The deadline for submitting new emoji is also being postponed. If you want, you can submit your proposals by September 1, 2020. So far, the end date was June 15, 2020.
The consortium is examining whether some emojis could still be released earlier if they are sequenced copies. These are emojis that are created from a combination of two existing emojis and therefore do not require coding of new characters.
