Undocumented immigrants affected by Ida in NY will have until April 29 to apply for financial aid – NBC New York (47)

Undocumented victims of the devastating storm Ida in New York in early September 2021 will have more time to apply for assistance due to an extended grace period, the Office for New Americans announced on its Twitter account on Saturday. of the state of New York.

The grace period for New Yorkers who do not qualify for FEMA assistance to apply for the Ida Relief Fund for Excluded New Yorkers has been extended through April 29. Find more information on the state website here.

To qualify for assistance under the extended aid program, New Yorkers must not qualify for FEMA assistance or live with someone who can receive such federal aid.

New Yorkers who meet the criteria for this fund and are seeking assistance can call the Office for New Americans hotline at 1-800-566-7636 between 9:00 am and 8:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The hotline is available in more than 200 languages.

Governor Hochul and former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced in September that $27 million is available to provide relief to undocumented survivors of the storm surge and flooding caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida. This funding will be distributed through grants to an established network of community organizations, named in the paragraph above, and will be provided to New Yorkers who do not qualify for storm recovery assistance through FEMA’s Individual Assistance Program or other media.
