Life Expectancy After AIDS Diagnosis

Dr. Balakrishna explained that if left untreated, HIV can develop into AIDS, damaging the immune system and making it difficult for the body to fight the disease.

Without treatment, people with late-stage AIDS have a life expectancy of about three years, but with timely diagnosis, access to medical care, and regular HIV treatment, life expectancy can be equivalent to that of the uninfected.

As medical care advances, life expectancy for people with HIV has increased significantly, reaching around 70 years in 2011.
