Undersecretary of Culture Vittorio Sgarbi announces that he will ask Report and Il Fatto Quotidiano for 1 million euros in compensation each for “the defamatory campaign built around the theft of a canvas from the castle of Buriasco”.
«The series of lies, inferences and suspicions spread daily against me, the result of completely false reconstructions, constitute a serious defamation for which I have asked my lawyers to ask for 1 million euros in compensation each from ‘Rai’ and ‘Il Fatto Daily’. A systematic defamatory campaign, clearly constructed around the table, with unfounded accusations, without cross-examination, with a pre-packaged theorem, with the evident purpose of delegitimizing me” says the art critic.
Furthermore, the undersecretary replies in a statement «to the new lies spread this morning by the newspaper Il Fatto»: «Contrary to what was written by the usual Thomas Mackinson, as always without cross-examination but with the usual aim of defaming me, it is not true that I am debtor towards the former PM Antonio Di Pietro, the historian Daniele Benati and the Forza Italia councilor Giovanni Terzi, as those directly involved can confirm. But the spreaders of Il Fatto are not interested in the truth; they resort to systematic lying as a method of defaming their opponents, as it is notoriously a megaphone newspaper for the 5 Star Movement.”
In the note Sgarbi also states that «it is not true that the bank’s current account at the Chamber of Deputies was found to be unseizable; in support I recall the order 01/12/2023 of Dr. Sergi, GE of the Court of Macerata, who assigned to the creditors the sum of 46,679.64 euros deposited in this account and deemed absolutely seizureable by the Judge. In a nutshell, from the joint securities enforcements the creditors received from me the total sum of 96,784.86 euros; not assigned, not even in part, to the restorer Mingardi as his defender never appeared at the hearings, not even at the last one: therefore the Judge did not take his credit into account. Finally – he concludes – it is not at all true that I declare myself ‘have nothing’. Yet another daily lie, for which the 5 Star body will be called to respond in the appropriate places.”
