During the meeting and in response to the proposals of the mayor and Senator Castro, the undersecretary assumed that indeed the trend in violent crimes is increasingly concentrated in the Metropolitan region and that this has an effect on what happens in O ‘Higgins, so the work will focus on improving security on Route 5 South and structuring roads in the region, for which they will convene all the mayors of the area.

“We have agreed, together with the mayor and the undersecretary, to work on a system that allows us to identify the 17 points of the structuring road that is the 5 South and also the southern access to the O’Higgins region, to precisely prevent criminals or irregular migrants “They can enter the area without first being identified through the vehicles in the respective porches for police purposes,” explained Senator Castro.

He stressed that the idea is to mitigate the negative effects that crime is causing in O’Higgins. “The device that we hope to have finalized in the next few days will include a meeting that we hope to hold in the area, with the presence of the Minister of Public Works, Jessica López, the Undersecretary of the Interior and the mayors that will allow us to finally give cause to “this strict police control of all the vehicular flow that passes through the O’Higgins region in order to identify in time exactly where the criminals who are transiting or arriving in the area are.”

After leaving the meeting, the Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, stated that it was an instance of work with the respective teams, thanking the senator for holding the meeting. “The issue is only one, it is the concern to improve the security conditions of Graneros and the entire O’Higgins region.”

“We have agreed to work on a very relevant line that seeks to prevent, and make difficult, the transit of people who commit crimes along the routes of the O’Higgins region. Control of the route is essential for security, what we have agreed together with the senator and the mayor is to be able to work very quickly, in the coming weeks we will meet with all the mayors of the region, in order to be able make modifications to Route 5 and structuring routes in the region to have technology that allows control of the routes,” said the undersecretary, at the same time explaining: “We are talking about tele-surveillance cameras, patent reader gantries that allow ensure control and safety of the route. Without routes, criminals cannot move and this is going to be the structuring element on which we are going to work.”

Along the same lines, the president of the Public Security Commission of the Association of Municipalities of the O’Higgins region and mayor of Graneros, Claudio Segovia, commented: “We raise the security situations that the region is experiencing today, we need to take care of the issues, to agree, to work together and in that sense the senator and the undersecretary have given us tasks and they left with several. We are going to work together to address the security issues that exist in our region and give the mayors of O’Higgins the certainty that we are facing the issue of crime with strength, vigor and strategies that will give results in the future thanks to the efforts we are going to carry out.”

Regarding the situation in Graneros, the councilor pointed out that the presence of migrants reflects serious problems in his commune. “One of those involved in the murder of Mayor (Emmanuel) Sánchez lived in Graneros, this shows that these people are occupying the rural communes to be able to experience the tranquility and security of living in Graneros like in any other commune in the region, but in some way generating fear or fear in the population and also clear difficulties regarding the presence of undocumented people in our territory, this must be faced and we must agree and pursue crimes, organized gangs and drug trafficking.”

“Somehow our communes, due to their tranquility and physiognomy, lack of police staff and lack of resources, effectively become dens of crime and we want to prevent this from being the case, with more security, more cameras, more police presence and actions.” concrete measures to give security to the inhabitants of our communes of O’Higgins,” Segovia insisted.
