When can tennis be played again in Switzerland? Several friends of the yellow felt ball are currently concerned with this question – Swiss Tennis has now submitted a protection concept to the federal government to speed up the resumption of tennis.

On Monday, the first measures in the fight against the corona virus were relaxed in Switzerland. Among other things, hardware stores and hairdressing salons can reopen. The first steps will soon be taken in sports too. As one of the first sports, tennis will soon be played again.

As Swiss Tennis announced, a «protection concept specifically geared to tennis sport» was submitted to the federal government last week. Out of this and concepts of other sports, overarching protection regulations for the «sports» branch were created. The Federal Council will examine these on April 29. By means of regulations, the mandatory measures are then adopted and a decision is made as to when clubs and centers can open their doors again.

The cornerstones of the tennis protection concept:

▶ Cloakrooms, restaurants and terraces must remain closed.

▶ Regular cleaning of the system and disinfection of the material, door handles etc.

▶ There must be a reservation system for logging the tennis players for any follow-up of infection chains.

▶ The tennis players come to the facility shortly before the reserved date, play tennis and go home immediately. Crowds of people must be avoided.

▶ The club / center hires a Covid 19 representative as a contact point for the members / customers and as a contact to the canton.

▶ Double games should be avoided in this first phase. Swiss Tennis recommends playing singles. It is also recommended to only play with your own balls and to disinfect your hands regularly.

Clubs and centers need their own concept

On the basis of the overarching protection concept of the federal government, every club and every center that wants to restart operations must present its own protection concept that is adapted to the individual situation.

The protection concept must be made available to all members or customers. Everyone who wants to play tennis in the near future must adhere to these regulations. The authorities check compliance with the protection concepts and every club, center and tennis player is liable for any failures and misconduct.
