The Technical Council of the Faculty of Law of the UNAM agreed to remove Raúl Eduardo López Betancourt, as president of the University Court, after the complaint of sexual harassment of a student.
According to the agency, the teacher was also provisionally suspended as a teacher, to take care of the physical and psychological safety of the student Lourdes “N”.
The UNAM Law School also reported that Professor Everardo Moreno Cruz will assume the presidency of the University Tribunal.

“During the session of the Technical Council, Professor López Betancourt was guaranteed an audience, and he spoke for an hour. In the end, the agreement was approved by a large majority, with only one vote against”, explained the UNAM in a release.
In 2019, Eduardo López Betancourt stated that complaints of gender violence at UNAM did not prosper or reach the highest instance due to the complicity between directors and teachers, as well as other “vested interests”.
“On the part of university authorities in coordination with the legal offices of each school, they dissuade, threaten and pressure anyone who files a complaint against a professor,” López Betancourt said at the time.
