A new group of COVID-19 variants is spreading across the United States, confirms CDC

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have reported the emergence of a new group of COVID-19 variants in the United States, stated sources. Referred to as FLiRT, these variants have rapidly become the dominant strain nationwide.

According to CDC data, one of the FLiRT variants, known as KP.2, is currently accountable for a significant 25% of COVID-19 infections in the country. With such levels of prevalence, concerns have grown about the potential dangers associated with this variant.

WFTV 9 News highlighted that the KP.2 variant appears to be particularly troubling. Reports indicate that it possesses alarming features like modifications in the spike protein, which enables the SARS-CoV-2 virus responsible for COVID-19 to more effectively invade the human body.

The CDC emphasizes that, although severe cases have reduced in number, COVID-19 remains a pertinent public health threat that individuals need to stay informed about.

As a precautionary measure, health experts recommend that individuals aged 65 and above receive an additional dose of the updated COVID-19 vaccine to enhance protection against these newer variants.

Identifying the symptoms of the FLiRT variants:

  • Sore throat

  • Cough

  • Fatigue

  • Congestion

  • Runny nose

  • Headache

  • Muscle aches

  • Fever or chills

  • Loss of taste or smell

  • Shortness of breath

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Diarrhea

Stay informed, stay cautious, and stay safe!
