UN: Taliban kill, torture and flout human rights | Abroad

According to UNAMA, the Taliban mainly target human rights activists, journalists and members of the ousted government. They also violate women’s rights. “UNAMA is concerned about the impunity with which members of the de facto authorities have been able to violate human rights,” the UN agency said in a statement.

In particular, a ministry that monitors Sharia compliance and the intelligence services are said to be guilty of human rights violations, according to UNAMA. The UN agency counted as many as 160 murders and 56 cases of torture. Furthermore, women hardly have any rights. It is virtually impossible for them to get an education or to work.

The Taliban contradict UNAMA’s accusations. According to a spokesperson, that would not be correct.
