Similarly, the publisher The Ship of Theseus, founded by him a few months before his death, published Umberto Eco’s philosophy, accompanied by his autobiography, in which Eco reviews his life.

Eco is considered the most interdisciplinary scholar. He was an outstanding academic and promoter of the creation of the Communication career. His thoughts on social media, hyperconnectivity and the media were captured – as a kind of heritage – in essays, columns, lectures and interviews.

He is the author of novels such as Foucault’s pendulum (1988), The island of the day before (1994), The Prague cemetery (2010), Number zero (2015), and among others his famous work The name of the rose (1980). The latter was translated into more than 40 languages ​​and made into a movie in 1986 by french Jean-Jacques Annaud, under the leading role of Sean Connery.

About the latter he once said: “I wrote it because that day I wanted to kill a priest (…) The name of the rose it has a light, irrelevant theme: it hardly asks what the price of freedom is. Nothing else (…) I wrote the first hundred pages as a test against stupid people. Anyone who exceeds those hundred pages deserves to read it ”.
