Ukrainians are divided in relation to the leader of the OUN

Practically the same number of Ukrainians assessed the historical figure of Stepan Bandera as both positive and negative for our state.

This is evidenced by the results of the survey Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation… So, approvingly about the activities of one of the main ideologues of Ukrainian nationalism responded 32% of citizens. The same number of respondents consider his role in history to be negative.

In the same time 21% of survey participants believe that Bandera’s figure was both positive and negative.

Mostly good attitude towards this historical personage prevails in the west of Ukraine (70%). In the center, 27% each consider the activity to be positive or negative, and another 27% – as positive as negative.

Negative assessment beliefs and activities of the OUN-B conductor dominates in the south and east of Ukraine 54% and 48% respectively. Only 11% of the residents of both regions expressed a positive attitude towards him.

Attitude of Ukrainians to Stepan Bandera

At the same time, a significant part of the inhabitants of the south and east consider Bandera’s activities as positive, as negative as they are (15% and 25%, respectively). However, young people are more inclined to consider this figure a historical figure, whose activities were rather positive for Ukraine.

As for the tendencies among the supporters of various political parties, then, for example, 36% of the electorate “Servants of the people” perceive Bandera as a positive historical figure, and 27% as negative.

Among supporters HLE only 4% positively assess the contribution of Bandera to the history of Ukraine, and 63% are negative. But supporters “European Solidarity”on the contrary, they predominantly assess Bandera’s figure positively (57%), negatively – only 12%.

Also Ukrainians shared their convictions regarding the policies of the Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin. It was assessed negatively by 62% of citizens. The majority of residents in all regions agreed with this opinion: in the west and in the center – 78% and 69% each, in the south and in the center – 45% each.

However, in the southern and eastern regions, about 35% consider Stalin’s activities to be both positive and negative. Mostly 12% of the residents of the East responded positively about its activities, in other regions – even less.
