KIEV – The Ukrainian armed forces used cluster bombs against civilian infrastructure in Belgorod Russia. They shelled the village of Zhuravlevka, according to regional head Vyacheslav Gladkov.

He clarified that the Ukrainian troops used 21 artillery shells and 3 cluster projectiles, which were fired from the MLRS.

Additionally, the Ukrainian army used grenade launchers and kamikaze drones to attack the village.

Ukrainian forces also shelled another village in the Belgorod region, Shetinovka, using grenade launchers, artillery and UAVs.

According to Gladkov, there were no casualties or damage to infrastructure.

In early July, the President of the United States (US) Joe Biden announced his decision to provide cluster bombs to Kiev.

Cluster bombs are banned under international conventions that have been ratified by 123 countries, excluding the US, Ukraine, China and Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, commenting on this decision, recalled that previous US administrations had labeled such actions a crime and added that the Russian army has large stockpiles of various cluster munitions.

The international non-governmental organization Human Rights Watch said providing Kiev with such weapons would ultimately cause long-term civilian suffering and would violate the international consensus against using cluster munitions.
