Ukraine will not be given guarantees similar to Article 5 of NATO

According to this article, an attack on one country of the alliance is considered an attack on all its members.

Western allies are preparing to offer Ukraine a number of guarantees securitywhich will make the country “impregnable” for a second Russian attack.

This was stated by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, writes Yahoo News.

According to Johnson, it is necessary to develop a long-term vision of Ukraine’s place in the future “security architecture” of Europe.

He noted that security guarantees for Ukraine will not be identical to the fifth article of NATO (an attack on one country of the alliance is considered an attack on all its members – ed.).

“I hope this will allow the Ukrainians to offer deterrence by denial and ensure that their territory is so fortified that it will be impregnable from further attack from Russia,” he said.

Also, the allies will support Ukraine with the supply of weapons, training of military personnel and the exchange of intelligence.

According to him, now the UK wants to send tanks to Poland so that Warsaw can transfer Soviet T-72s to Ukraine.

He also noted that the UK would reopen its embassy in Kyiv next week.

Johnson previously admitted that war in Ukraine could last until the end of 2023.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine wants security guarantees for a peace deal with Russia. The president’s office reports that they must be signed two documents: separately – guarantees and an agreement with the Russian Federation.

As proposed by President Zelensky formulathe guarantor country will be responsible for its signature and guarantees for Ukraine.
