Meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission

During the meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission, the forthcoming Council with Russia and the Alliance summit in Madrid were discussed.

At yesterday’s meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission representatives of Kiev voiced their wishes for the negotiations of the Alliance with Russia, which will take place tomorrow. This was announced by the Deputy Head of the President’s Office Igor Zhovkva in Facebook.

“We have synchronized watches with NATO member states and armed them with arguments on the eve of the planned dialogue with Russia. Our arguments were heard and taken to work,” he wrote.

Zhovkva clarified that all 30 allies expressed their position and in each speech there was support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as a high assessment of the fact that Ukraine remains restrained during the tense situation on its borders and is not subjected to all sorts of provocations.

Also at the meeting they discussed preparations for the NATO summit in Madrid.

“I noted the importance of Ukraine not only being invited to the Summit as a partner country, but clear decisions on its further movement towards NATO membership, preferably with specific time guidelines,” said the deputy head of the OPU.

“We will work on this, starting today, with all the capitals of the NATO member states and with headquarters in Brussels,” Zhovkva added.

In addition, he said that at the meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Commission it was noted that the future of Ukraine in Alns is the business of only 30 NATO members and Ukraine. “And this instills cautious optimism about the successful result of Madrid and further movement into NATO,” Zhovkva added.

On the results of the meeting Olga Stefanishina, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, said earlier.
