Ukraine is ready to create an international consortium for GTS management

An international consortium can guarantee the availability of gas transit, although there are Ukrainian specialists to manage the GTS.

The head of the company GTS Operator of Ukraine Serhiy Makogon said that Ukraine supports the idea of creating an international consortium to manage its gas transportation system (GTS) as a guarantee of maintaining transit through the country. He said this on Tuesday, October 26 in an interview. 1+1.

“The creation of the consortium is a very positive idea. The President of Ukraine supported it and emphasized that Ukraine is ready for this. But what do we need from the consortium? Guaranteeing the availability of transit,” Makogon said.

According to him, the consortium is very important for Ukraine “as an element of maintaining transit.” At the same time, Makogon assured that there are specialists for managing the GTS who can do this without their European colleagues.

“If there is transit, the tariff will be paid and there will be funds for the modernization of the system. This is how GTS operators work all over the world,” he added.

Earlier, the Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly offered European and American companies to create an international consortium to manage the Ukrainian gas transmission system. At the same time, they excluded the participation of Russia in such a consortium.

We will remind, earlier the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin stated that Ukraine’s gas transportation system may burst completely… According to him, it is dangerous to increase the transit of Russian gas through it.

In turn, the head of the GTS Operator of Ukraine Serhiy Makogon said that Putin’s words are an attempt at pressure to Europe for the fastest certification of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.
