Ukraine scored for the first time in history from a game in the playoffs of a major tournament

Alexander Zinchenko scored a goal in the 1/8 finals of Euro 2020.

As part of the 1/8 finals of the European Championship 2020, the Ukrainian team plays with the national team of Sweden.

On the 27th minute of the meeting, Alexander Zinchenko hit the opponent’s goal and brought the “yellow-blue” forward. This goal was the first for Ukraine to score from the playoffs of a major tournament.

In their history, Ukrainians have played in the playoffs of the World Cup only once – in 2006. Then at the stage of 1/8 finals of the tournament, the “yellow-blue” met with Switzerland and in the main time played with a score of 0: 0, and reached the next stage following the results of a penalty shootout (3: 0). In 1/4 of the tournament, the Ukrainians lost to the future champion of the tournament – the Italian national team (0: 3).

At the European Championships, Ukraine is playing in the playoffs for the first time – in 2012 and 2016 the team did not leave the group.
