A total of 47 percent say they are willing to use weapons to help Ukrainian forces in the war.

About 1,000 Ukrainians aged 18 to 55 participated in the survey, which was conducted in the third week of the war, between 9 and 12 March. Half of the sample were women and the other half were men. The Peace Research Institute in Oslo (Prio) is behind the survey, with help from the pollster Info Sapiens in Ukraine.

According to Prio, Info used Sapien’s panels that had been set up before the war began.

The survey also showed that the Ukrainians’ willingness to take part in the war increased if their loved ones were directly affected by Russia’s attack.

Prio researchers write that they are surprised by the Ukrainians’ motivation to fight in the war, and believe it will grow if the Russians escalate the warfare.

– The courage the Ukrainians are struggling with will only grow in step with the terror directed at them, writes one of the authors of the study, Henrikas Bartusevicius.
