The UK has seen the largest daily increase in new cases of coronavirus since late February, with most of them with the “Delta” variant, isolated for the first time in India, reports BTA.
According to government data, 8,125 newly infected people have been identified in the kingdom in the last 24 hours, the most since February 26.
Over 90 percent of them are carriers of the so-called an Indian strain thought to be 40 percent more contagious than the usual form of the virus. There are fears that the easing of restrictive measures in England, scheduled for June 21, may be postponed due to the increase in the number of new cases.
On Monday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson will announce whether mandatory physical distance will be lifted.
