KEYSTONE/AP/Mark Lennihan Peter Green, guitarist and co-founder of famous British band Fleetwood Mac, has died at the age of 73, his family’s lawyers said on Saturday. He passed away “this weekend peacefully in his sleep,” according to a press release from the Swan Turton cabinet. This blues and rock guitar virtuoso – whose talent and fluid style had impressed BB King – founded Fleetwood Mac with drummer Mick Fleetwood in London in 1967. Author of titles like “Albatross” and “Oh Well” which shaped the style of the group and made it world famous, he had also composed “Black Magic Woman”, then immortalized by Carlos Santana in 1970. But that same year, mental problems and addiction had forced him to leave the group and give up music for a while. Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Peter Green was one of eight band members inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. Singer Cat Stevens paid tribute to Peter Green on Twitter, presenting him as an “unsung hero” and praising his “honesty and musical inventiveness”.
