Uganda’s president fired his son from infantry command over a tweet • Newspaper Al-Marsad

Al-Marsad newspaper – agencies: Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni fired his son, Muhuzi Kaynerugaba, commander of the army’s infantry forces, today Tuesday after threatening in a tweet to take over Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.

In recent months, Lieutenant General Muhozi Kaynerugaba, nicknamed “General Tweeter”, has sparked anger among some Ugandans who see his previous tweets as provocative and sometimes dangerous.

In a previous tweet, he expressed his support for the Tigray Liberation Front, which is fighting the federal government in Ethiopia.

He also expressed his support for the violent rebel battles in eastern Congo.

On Monday he tweeted: “It won’t take me and my army two weeks to take Nairobi.”

The threat to capture Nairobi angered his father, the leader who has ruled the African country since 1986.

A statement released Tuesday by the Ugandan army said he was removed from his post and replaced by Lieutenant General Kayanga Muhanga, as commander of the infantry forces.

Despite his dismissal from his position as infantry chief, Kainerogaba has been promoted to four-star general and will remain a military adviser to his father, according to an army statement.

Some supporters of Kaynerugaba say her tweets are attempts at humor and shouldn’t be taken seriously.
