Ubisoft revives The Division 2 with new content for 2021 • Eurogamer.de

  • Developer Massive writes in a Reddit post that they are working on new content for The Division 2
  • Ubisoft says the new Star Wars game will not affect Massive’s work
  • The support from the community was instrumental in our decision to breathe new life into The Division 2

Ubisoft has confirmed that more content for The Division 2 will be released later this year. The fourth season of the shooter, which came into play with Title Update 12, should actually be the last. Publisher Ubisoft has now decided differently.

With the name “End of Watch” the fourth season should herald the end of The Division 2. A Reddit post by the development team behind the shooter shows that “End of Watch” does not mean “End of Division 2”.

“We’re excited to confirm today that there will be additional content for The Division 2 later this year,” said the Reddit post. “It is your continued passion and support that enables us to continue building the The Division 2 experience and we cannot thank you enough for that.”

With Ubisoft Massive currently working on a new Star Wars game and an Avatar game, the Division community had assumed that their shooter would be removed from the priority list. The continued support of the division players is the reason for the change of heart, according to Ubisoft.

“Some of you have heard that Title Update 12 was originally supposed to be the last major Title Update for The Division 2, but thanks to your continued support, we are now in the early stages of development for new content that will be released later in 2021 . “

During the last earnings call, Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot assured that Massive’s work on the new Star Wars title would not prevent the developer from adding new content for The Division 2.

“We are very happy to be working with Lucasfilm Games again,” said Guillemot. “The project is being led by our Massive studio, which will make the most of its innovative technology, including the Snowdrop engine, to deliver a groundbreaking Star Wars adventure. We are extremely proud of this collaboration.

“The Massive Studio is a big studio, and they also work with a lot of studios around the world … you’ll see more of The Division this year and next.” As Massive reports in The Division 2 subreddit, this content shouldn’t be too long in coming.
