Ubisoft Begins Development on Remake of “Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

Ubisoft is reportedly working on a remake of the popular 2013 game “Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag,” according to gaming news outlet Kotaku. The remake will be developed with the help of Ubisoft Singapore, the studio responsible for the acclaimed boating sections of the original game.

“Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag” was originally released as a cross-gen title for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Set during the Golden Age of Piracy in the early 18th century, the game takes place primarily on and around the islands in the Caribbean Sea. Players are immersed in three major cities: Havana, Nassau, and Kingston. The game has consistently been praised as one of the best entries in the “Assassin’s Creed” series, alongside the second installment set in Venice and the more recent ancient world-themed trilogy.

While the remake is still in its early stages, it is expected to take at least a few years to complete. Ubisoft, the publisher behind the franchise, is currently focusing on expanding its flagship series. This includes the upcoming release of “Assassin’s Creed Mirage,” set in 9th century Baghdad, which marks a return to the smaller scale entries reminiscent of the franchise’s early titles. Additionally, Ubisoft has announced other titles in the works, such as “Red,” set in feudal Japan, and “Hexe,” set in the late Holy Roman Empire. These games are part of the new “Assassin’s Creed Infinity” franchise hub.

In addition to these projects, Ubisoft is also developing a China-set mobile game titled “Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade” and a standalone multiplayer title. With these new releases and the remake of “Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag,” Ubisoft is aiming to further expand the “Assassin’s Creed” universe and provide fans with a diverse range of experiences within the franchise.
