With the collector’s editions, we were treated to all the stories: beautiful objects, products that do not match the visuals, boxes with just a digital code, and sometimes even packs simply sold without a game. Ubisoft innovates however by differentiating its offer according to the version of the game you want to buy.
For these big productions to be released in the coming months, namely Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Far Cry 6 and Watch Dogs Legion, the French publisher has decided to do not include a physical disk, only a digital activation key in collector’s editions … on Xbox. Yes, if you buy the game on PS4 or PS5 you will get a Blu-ray in your bundle, but not on Xbox One and Xbox Series X. On PC it will also be a code, but it already is. For years.
Pre-orders for the Collector’s Editions of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Far Cry 6, and Watch Dogs Legion for Xbox will receive a digital activation key instead of the physical disc.
Collector’s Editions for PlayStation will receive a physical disc of the game.
The remainder of the collector’s edition content will be delivered to you by post as scheduled.
Contacted by Polygon, Ubisoft even confirmed that the initiative only concerned Europe and not North America. This choice which will penalize only a small part of the community has not been explained, but it may make some collectors cringe. It has also not been said whether this decision will affect all future collector’s editions or not. For other boxes, such as the editions Limited and Gold of Far Cry 6, however, there should be no problem.
