UAE National Football Team Begins Preparation for Matches Against Yemen in 2026 World Cup Qualifiers

Today, our first national football team begins its closed indoor camp in Abu Dhabi in preparation for facing the Yemeni national team on the 21st and 26th of this month, within the framework of the third and fourth rounds of the eighth group of the joint Asian qualifiers, which qualifies for the finals of the 2026 World Cup and the 2027 Asian Cup.

Our national team is scheduled to perform its daily training at New York University Stadium on Saadiyat Island after Tarawih prayers during the days of its internal camp, and the “White” ranks will be completed with the addition of Al Ain and Ajman players tomorrow evening, after the technical staff of our national team gave them a rest to play their match, at the end of the 16th round of the ADNOC League. For professionals, the Abu Dhabi camp will not include any friendly matches due to time constraints, and the greatest focus will be on the most technical and physical readiness to prepare the “white”.

The “white” list selected to enter the camp witnesses a decline in the average age of the players from 26 to 25 years old, compared to the previous list chosen by the Portuguese Paulo Bento, the first coach of our national team, in the recent Asian Cup finals.

Goalkeeping

There was a decline in the average age of the players on the list, which includes 26 players, after the quartet, Abdul Rahman Saleh, Abdullah Ramadan, Ali Mabkhout, and Hassan Hamza, who were on the Asian Cup list, were excluded, while the trio included Hazem Mohammed, Issam Fayez, and Zayed Al Ameri, and goalkeeper Khaled Tawhid, who He was on the Asian list, and was replaced hours before the start of the continental tournament due to injury, and Hassan Hamza was summoned to reinforce the goalkeeping position.

The summoning of Tawhid and the exclusion of Hamza contributed to the decline in the average age of goalkeepers from 33 to 30 years, with Ali Khaseef, the Al Jazira goalkeeper, remaining the oldest among the national team players at the age of 36 years, and Hazem Muhammad Abbas, the Al Ain player, became the youngest among the players at the age of 18 years, followed by him. Sultan Adel, Ittihad Kalba striker, 19 years old.

In general, the current list includes 3 players over the age of 30, 10 players between the ages of 25 and 30, 11 players between the ages of 20 and 25, and only two players under the age of 20.

It should be noted that our current national team roster includes players Khaled Issa, Khaled Tawhid and Ali Khasif in goalkeeping, and Khaled Al Hashemi, Khalifa Al Hammadi, Mohammed Al Attas, Ahmed Jameel, Khaled Al Dhanhani, Zayed Sultan, Badr Nasser, Abdullah Idris, Ali Salmeen, Yahya Nader, Muhammad Abbas, Hazem Muhammad, Majid Rashid, Abdullah Hamad, Tahnoun Al Zaabi, Issam Fayez, Yahya Al Ghassani, Hareb Abdullah, Fabio de Lima, Ali Saleh, Sultan Adel, Caio Canedo and Zayed Al Ameri.

Our team leads Group Eight with 6 points, obtained from two consecutive victories over Nepal in Dubai, 4-0, and over Bahrain in Manama, 2-0.

While the Yemeni team occupies third place in the group standings with 3 points, with a goal difference from Bahrain in second place, and the Nepal team is in fourth last place without points, and the Abu Dhabi camp is the first gathering for our national team after exiting from the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup finals in Qatar 2023. By losing to the Tajikistan national team 3-5 on penalties from the penalty spot, after the end of the match time in a 1-1 draw.
