UAE Dominates Taekwondo at First Gulf Youth Games with 18 Colorful Medals

The UAE won a colorful 18 medals in Taekwondo at the opening of its competition at the First Gulf Youth Games, currently being held in the country, with the participation of more than 3,500 male and female athletes.

Emirates Sports opened its journey in the first Gulf Youth Games “Emirates 2024”, which started its competitions yesterday, Wednesday, at the Zayed Sports Center in Fujairah, by winning 18 colorful medals in Taekwondo, including 4 gold.

The UAE will host the first Gulf Youth Games from April 16 to May 2, under the slogan “Our Gulf is One… Promising Youth,” in 24 games, with the participation of more than 3,500 athletes – male and female actors.

Taekwondo competitions in the tournament, in which 124 male and female players participated, saw 70 matches held on the first day in 10 weight divisions for the male and female divisions.

On the first day, the UAE won 18 medals (4 gold, 11 silver, and 3 bronze), compared to 16 medals for Kuwait (7 gold, 2 silver, and 7 bronze), 9 medals for Saudi Arabia (3 gold , 4). silver, and 2 bronze), and 5 medals for Oman (4).

Maitha Rashid won the gold medals in the junior women’s sub-44 kg category, Marwa Zuhair in the sub-47 kg category, Sharifa Ismail in the sub-55 kg category, and the junior Nasser Ahmed Al Muhair in the sub-44 kg. -49 kg.

Dr. Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, President of the Emirates Taekwondo Federation, expressed his satisfaction with the opening of sports competitions in the Emirate of Fujairah, welcoming the Gulf delegations to the UAE, noting near that the National Olympic Committee has completed the preparations for the success of the Gulf event, which is being held for the first time.
