Oaxaca.- With the purpose of recognizing the work of Zootechnical Veterinary Doctors and Doctors, in the care, assistance and cure of animals, as well as their high responsibility related to human well-being, the Autonomous University “Benito Juárez” of Oaxaca (UABJO) , started the eleventh Academic and Cultural Week.
This on the occasion of the celebration of the Day of the Zootechnical Veterinary Doctor, which is commemorated in Mexico today, August 17, the date on which the first Veterinary School was founded in our country and in the American continent, in 1853.
During the opening ceremony held yesterday afternoon, the Director of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics (FMVZ), Patricia Vicente Castillo, said that the role played in this profession is of great importance, because it is also related to prevention and control of diseases transmissible from animals to humans.
In addition to the fact that those who exercise it have the mission of ensuring that consumable meat foods are healthy, safe and of quality, added to the duty of protecting the environment against ecosystem diseases.
Faced with such a scenario, the FMVZ has organized various activities for its students and teachers, with the participation of national and international specialists, in order to keep them at the forefront on issues related to their training.
This day from 11:00 in the morning there will be conferences on Small ruminants: Characterization of the Creole sheep, Productive performance and quality of the Chocholteco sheep meat and Practical considerations in the formulation of rations for sheep destined for supply.
In the afternoon section, from 4:00 p.m. there will be presentations related to Equids, among which are: Main pathologies of hoofs in horses, Challenges and opportunities for their well-being in a changing world, Reproductive management of equines and Etiology equina, among others.
And for tomorrow, August 18, topics related to the Importance of the Veterinarian in Public Health will be presented: Livestock Mobilization in the State of Oaxaca, Inspection of diseases in animal mobilization and responsibilities of the MVZ in the production of protein of animal origin.
Vicente Castillo, reported that a sterilization campaign is also being carried out, by Doctor Roberto Ernesto Montiel, with the participation of students, it is a service for the control of the overpopulation of dogs and cats at low cost.
Finally, he announced that the activities are open and can be consulted on the Facebook page: Fmvz Uabjo and UABJO, the same platforms on which they will be broadcast.
