By winning the title, Švábíková continued her three-year-old triumph at the Junior World Championships. The 21-year-old athlete USK Praha also has bronze from the European Junior Championships in 2016 in her collection. In the final, Švábíková was the only one to beat 450 cm and beat the British Molly Caudery by five centimeters. Two attempts at 455 and one at 460 cm with coach Pavel Beran’s charge did not work out.

“I’m excited, I didn’t expect it. I wanted to have at least a medal, but I knew the competition was terribly stomped. The first place is unbelievable,” she said on the website of the athletics association. “The competition was very long. I’m glad it’s over for me. I had more to do today, I’m sorry for the last attempt I didn’t try to finish anymore. But I was already very tired,” said Švábíková.

Czech Thursday women dominated the European Under-23 Championship, Vondrová has gold and Malíková silver

Twenty-year-old Štefela succeeded in his first big championship in the fight with eleven opponents, most of whom had better personal records than him. Ukrainian Oleh Doroščuk and Belgian Thomas Carmoy have even jumped 228 cm.

“I still don’t understand what happened. I can’t believe I won. It’s something unreal,” Štefel rejoiced.

Although the Pilsen racer repaired at the first two heights of 210 and 214 cm, he was flawless at the other two. He also tried 223 cm, but after one attempt he ended the competition. Behind him, the Frenchman Nathan Ismar and the Italian Manuel Lando shared the silver with a performance of 217 cm.

The winner of Saturday’s race, Vondrová, ran the Thursday relay very well and passed it in first place. Jíchová and Vesela did not maintain the lead, but Malíková showed a crushing finish in the last section. She ran into the finish line fourth, but did not give her opponents from France, Poland and Germany a chance in the last meters.

“I was driven by spectators, driven by girls, that they ran absolutely wonderfully. They held what we had. The last hundred were already rewarded, because I knew I would overtake them,” said Malíková, who was replaced by Věra Holubářová in the morning run.
