Two people died in a night fire in Ropaži municipality

Last day, 13 fires were extinguished in Latvia, in one of them two people lost their lives, but in two other fires there was one victim each, according to the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD).

At 188, firefighters received a call to Ropaži region, where an apartment of 70 square meters burned in a one-storey apartment building with an open flame. Two dead people were found in the beds during the erasure work. The fire was extinguished at 5.08.

Given that the apartment burned with an open flame, it is not yet possible to say whether smoke detectors were installed. However, firefighters remind that from January 1, smoke detectors must be installed in every home. With a loud noise, it will warn of the formation of smoke, which the human senses do not feel during sleep, and thus help save lives.

A garden house with an area of ​​25 square meters burned in Līvāni municipality at 21.16. Near it, firefighters met a man who had suffered a fire accident. He was referred to a doctor. The fire was extinguished at 23.31.

In Mārupe, on the other hand, a fire broke out around midnight in the kitchen of a one-storey house apartment. The burning area was ten square meters. Rescuers took the injured person out of the burning apartment. He was referred to the Emergency Medical Service. Around 2.30 pm the fire was extinguished.

On Friday, seven fires were extinguished in the counties, three in Riga and three more in other cities. In addition, SFRS employees have also participated in extinguishing one forest fire, which is not included in the overall fire statistics compiled by the service. The information provided by the State Forest Service shows that a total of two small forest fires were extinguished in Latvia on Friday.

During the day, SFRS employees also performed 24 rescue operations – in seven counties, 14 in Riga, but three in other cities. Since the beginning of the year, 4,910 fires have been extinguished in Latvia, of which 1,379 have been fires, 163 people have been killed in fires, and 49 have died, according to SFRS statistics.
