Western police districts state that people must be observed in the sea. A recreational boat has also been observed that may have managed to pick up the kayak paddles, but it has not been confirmed yet, according to police.

– A police patrol has observed that the recreational boat has picked up two canoes. It is on its way to Øyrane square, and we are heading there to confirm that the boat has picked up all the people who were in the sea, says operations manager Eivind Hellesund in the Western Police District to BT.

– Then people in the fjord

The emergency services were notified at 12.12.

– There was a local man who announced that he saw people in the sea and two kayaks outside Votlo on Osterøy. The people waved for help, and it blew well on the fjord, says the police chief.

The air ambulance has moved out, it also has a rescue boat and three police patrols.

Two people involved

The main rescue center in southern Norway reports that the fire boat has arrived. According to the National Rescue Service, there must be two people involved. They should have been in the water for about 15 minutes, and according to conditions they should be in good shape. They are met by health professionals as soon as they arrive on land.

The Western Police District states that it has now been confirmed that there were two kayaks with one person in each. Both people are rescued by a random leisure boat after being in the sea for about a quarter of an hour. According to police, they do not appear to be seriously injured. They are accompanied to the quay in Arna by the recreational boat and a fire boat. The air ambulance and rescue divers return.

“It was a message from a distance from a person who saw that two kayaks were overturned and that the two who had been on board did not struggle to get up in the kayaks,” said rescue officer Andreas Bull at the National Rescue Center in Southern Norway.

The announcer also saw that a leisure boat came to the rescue.

– The problem was that the boat driver probably did not consider this a rescue and emergency situation, and he did not report. Thus, we first had to find the boat to confirm that all persons were rescued by the water, ”Bull says.

Police initially stated that there were two canoes that were overturned, but later corrected that they were two kayaks.
