The next generation iPadPro It will have two new 4-pin connectors, according to a recent report from Mac Otakara.
Citing “reliable sources in China,” the report claims that the upcoming 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models will feature the same chassis design as the current iPad Pro models, but with at least one notable change: a new top connector and lower side edges.
The connectors are said to have four pins. This is what distinguishes them from smart connectorwhich has three pins and is used to connect accessories such as Magic Keyboard and MagSafe 3, it has five pins and is used for more convenient charging on Mac laptops. As a result, it appears to be a whole new type of interface.
Mac Otakara It is suggested that the new connectors could be used to help power devices connected to a Thunderbolt port and take advantage of the new DriverKit support in iPadOS 16but it is unclear what the purpose of the connectors is or why two of them are needed on different sides of the device.
