Two men, have just been judged this afternoon in the court of Tours. They are two Bulgarians aged 20 and 39 who admitted having stole frying oil from McDonald’s of Saint-Pierre-des-Corps. They admitted the facts and were tried on Friday afternoon.
It is a phenomenon that is beginning to make itself known. For the past ten days, fast food restaurants in Indre-et-Loire have been affected by thefts of used frying oil. The police were also able to track the two men arrested in flagrante delicto on four other stories like this.
They had 4 x 200 liter drums of frying oil
Yellow vests on the back, electric pumps to recover used oil, and adapted van. These two Bulgarians pretended to be employees of the Quatra company, responsible for recovering frying oil in all McDonald’s in the great west.
Except that Thursday, in Saint-Pierre-des-Corps, it is in the middle of the night that the pseudo oil collectors arrive and, it is at 2 am, that they begin to siphon the buried tanks and to fill their 4 barrels of 200 liters.
A cleaning lady finds the scene curious, alerts a McDonald’s manager. A manager who quickly understands that it is not the usual subcontractor, and he immediately calls the police. Police arrest thieves in the actand thanks to video surveillance, discover that they have already siphoned off other restaurants in the department.
In their defense, the two oil thieves explain that it is not theft, but “recovery..”
At €1.19 per liter of frying oil, normally used for the production of biodiesel, the loot still amounted to almost 1000 euros.
