Virginia Beach police said on Twitter that several people could have life-threatening injuries after a shooting episode. They asked people to stay away from the area.
Shortly after the shooting, police fired shots at a suspected perpetrator. He died on the spot.
Another person was shot shortly afterwards, but the police do not believe that this is related.
A total of two people were killed and eight were injured in Virginia Beach in a short time, according to NBC News.
New York Post writes that the cause is not yet known.
