Passengers on two JetBlue planes faced unexpected disruptions to their travel plans on Thursday morning when the aircrafts collided on the tarmac at Boston’s Logan International Airport. Although no injuries were reported, both flights were taken out of service for repairs, leaving the passengers on board to find alternative arrangements.

The Collision

The incident occurred at approximately 6:40 a.m. while Flight 777’s left winglet struck the right horizontal stabilizer of Flight 551. The collision took place on the deicing pad, as confirmed by the Federal Aviation Administration. Dave Souter, a passenger on Flight 777, recounted the experience, stating that the incident happened after the aircraft pulled away from the gate. He mentioned that he was on his way to Las Vegas for a Super Bowl event.

Passenger Testimony

One passenger, Casey Cunningham, expressed gratitude towards the in-flight JetBlue crew who diligently provided updates and addressed passengers’ concerns during the eventful incident. Sharing their gratitude and appreciation, passengers acknowledged the crew’s dedication to ensuring their safety throughout the situation, even amid the unexpected disruption to their journeys.

Operational Impact

While Flight 777 was bound for Las Vegas, the other aircraft involved was heading to Orlando, Florida. JetBlue spokesperson, who assured passengers’ safety as a priority, stated that a new plane would be arranged swiftly for those destined for Orlando. Both planes involved in the collision will undergo repairs in order to restore them to service conditions.

Investigation Underway

Judging safety to be of paramount importance, JetBlue emphasized that they would thoroughly investigate the incident to determine the cause and prevent future occurrences. Simultaneously, the Federal Aviation Administration has also initiated its investigation into the collision, aiming to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the event.
