Two Twitter accounts of Willem Engel, the leader of the Dutch action group Viruswaarheid, have been suspended. The tweets on the accounts are no longer visible to users of the medium. Only Twitter can suspend an account. It concerns the account of his dance school @dancalegria and the account @Willem_Engel.

A Twitter spokesperson said it was a temporary suspension “for violation of our platform manipulation and spam policy.” The company points out, among other things, that users should not have two accounts for more or less the same purposes.
Twitter states that if such rules are broken, they may be allowed to keep one account in the future and the other will be deleted. In addition, Twitter emphasizes that it will also intervene in violations of its policies regarding “misleading information about COVID-19” and regarding “private data and media”.

Engel himself thinks that Twitter has removed the accounts because he shared a photo last week showing the house number and postal code of the Dutch Minister of Finance Sigrid Kaag. He also thinks that the government is partly behind the action and he wants to initiate summary proceedings against Twitter.
One of Engel’s accounts was already suspended by Twitter in the summer, because of statements about football player Christian Eriksen. Engel tweeted that there would be a connection between the corona vaccination and the cardiac arrest that Eriksen suffered during the European Championship match against Finland. Engel later nuanced his statements, but he did not want to delete the tweet.
Willem Engel is known in our country because he sued virologist Marc Van Ranst for defamation. In the meantime, the court ruled that no crime had been committed.
