Twitter’s new CEO, Linda Yakarino, unveiled a new logo with a white ‘X’ on a black background on the 24th (local time).

On the morning of the 24th, CEO Yakarino tweeted, “X is here! Let’s try it.”

Twitter owner Elon Musk, who said earlier that he wanted to get rid of the existing Twitter logo in the shape of a blue bird, also revealed that ‘tweets (posts)’ will be called ‘xies’.

In addition, Musk changed his Twitter profile picture to a new X-shaped logo, while posting the phrase ‘X.com’ in the account introduction.

Musk is known to want to create a ‘super app’ called ‘X’ (a form of providing all services necessary for daily life, such as payments, in one app).

On the 23rd, Musk announced his logo change plan on Twitter and wrote, “I will say goodbye to the Twitter brand and gradually to all birds.”

At the same time, he shared a photo of the ‘X’ logo projected on Twitter’s headquarters building in San Francisco.

Twitter post finished

Musk, who also changed the name to ‘Company X’, mentioned that it was “a name that should have been changed a long time ago.”

Previously, Musk posted an image of a blinking ‘X’ on Twitter, and on Twitter’s voice chat platform ‘Twitter Space’, when asked if the Twitter logo would change, he replied “yes”.

Meanwhile, CEO Yakarino wrote, “Twitter has left a great impression and changed the way we communicate,” and now this rebranding will be a good new opportunity for Twitter.

“Now X will go further than this and change the global plaza (culture).”

‘Super app’

Meanwhile, there are actually super apps in some parts of Asia, such as India’s ‘Pay TM’ and Indonesia’s ‘GoJek’, which have played an important role in the daily lives of people in these regions for the past few years.

Users can also make payments and financial transactions in the app.

For example, China’s messaging and social media platform ‘WeChat’ has developed into one of the largest apps in the region in terms of service coverage and user volume.

Last year, WeChat had an estimated 1.29 billion users in China alone.

Twitter says on its website that the bluebird logo is “the asset people recognize us most for” and that “that’s why we protect it.”

Then, in April of this year, Twitter replaced the logo with ‘Shibainu’, which symbolizes virtual currency ‘Dogecoin’, instead of the blue bird, and the value of Dogecoin soared. Later, Musk was accused by Dogecoin investors of gaining personal gain by increasing the value of Dogecoin through insider trading.

Meanwhile, Musk announced earlier this month that he would limit the number of tweets users can read, which drew criticism from many users.

And this policy of Twitter has recently encouraged the growth of ‘Thread’, a competitor service launched by another SNS company ‘Meta’. Thread reached 100 million subscribers within 5 days of launch.

Also, the most recent bad news is a lawsuit from former employees. Former employees are suing Twitter for not paying them severance pay, which amounts to at least $500 million.

Since Musk’s takeover, Twitter has laid off about half of its workforce through large-scale restructuring.
