Mexico City, Aug 3 (EFE) .- At least four people who managed to get out of the mine that collapsed this Wednesday in Sabinas, Coahuila, in northern Mexico, where another 9 were trapped, are being treated for minor injuries in the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), reported the institution.

“So far, four people who managed to get out are in care with minor injuries at the General Hospital of Zone Number 24 of Nueva Rosita,” reported the IMSS of Coahuila.

In addition, he reported that the boss of the mine, whose name he did not say, is registered and up to date with his fees.

“The mine is registered as a pattern before the IMSS without debt in the payment of quotas,” the institution specified in a brief statement.

He also lamented the “tragedy” and assured that they will guarantee the care of the injured miners.

This Wednesday afternoon, at least nine miners were trapped after a collapse in a coal mine where they worked in the municipality of Sabinas and another four managed to get out after the accident.

In a statement, the federal Ministry of Labor, the accident occurred when workers in the development of their excavation activities ran into an adjoining area full of water that caused a flood when it collapsed, trapping the miners.

Likewise, he reported that the mine began operations in January of this year “and to date there is no history of complaints of any type of anomaly.”

Shortly after the incident, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported that the Secretaries of Labor and Security, as well as Civil Protection, the Army, rescuers and authorities in the region were working to rescue the miners.

“We hope to find them safe,” said the president, who also reported that the DN-III rescue plan was applied, in addition to the fact that 92 elements of the Ministry of National Defense were at the site with specialists and four canine pairs.

The accident recalls what happened in February 2006, at the Pasta de Conchos mine, also in Coahuila, where 65 workers died in an accident and only two bodies were recovered.

Since then, there have been more than 100 deaths of miners in the area, according to the Pasta de Conchos Family, which brings together relatives of the victims of the tragedy.

The most recent accident in a mine occurred in June 2021, in the municipality of Múzquiz, Coahuila, when a flood caused the roof and walls of the mine to rupture, causing the site to collapse, inside which seven miners were trapped. they all died. EFE
