Twitter Fix the Fact Check Label in 5G and Covid-19 Conspiracy Theory Tweets

SAN FRANCISCO, iNews.id – Twitter has implemented a label for tweets linking 5G technology with Covid-19. Because there is a problem, the company bearing the blue bird logo will repair the fact-checking label.

Twitter has taken a stand against the spread of conspiracy theories which claim 5G is spreading corona virus. They applied labels to tweets containing potentially dangerous and misleading information related to Covid-19.

The label says ‘Get the fact aboud Covid-19’ and a link to the Twitter moment titled ‘No, 5G doesn’t cause coronavirus.’ However, it seems that Twitter has too many labels.

Users have found the label will appear in tweets containing the words ‘frequency’ and ‘oxygen.’ This seems to be due to an unproven conspiracy theory, 5G is a dangerous frequency that sucks oxygen out of the atmosphere and disrupts the regular function of the human body.

The use of too many fact-checking labels does not cause actual harm. However, the meme of a person who uploaded a tweet containing two keywords caused the label to appear even though the label is only applied to tweets that make false claims, as quoted from Digital Trends, Monday (6/29/2020).

Twitter has acknowledged the wrong application of the fact-checking label. Social networking technology also said it would improve the process behind the feature.

Unfortunately, Twitter does not provide a timeline for when the changes will be applied. As is known, the spread of the corona virus is just one of many conspiracy theories involving 5G technology.

There is another theory that says 5G technology causes cancer and the death of hundreds of birds in The Hague. 5G is also said to have the ability to control the weather and people’s minds. However, all these theories have been refuted.
