Twente hopes for transfer stunt: ‘Hopefully he will take an example from Robben’

FC Twente hopes to seduce Karim El Ahmadi to return to Enschede. If it is up to technical director Jan Streuer, the 35-year-old midfielder follows the trail of Arjen Robben.

At Twente it is hoped that El Ahmadi will finish his career at the club where he once started, just like Robben at Groningen. “Let’s hope he takes an example from Arjen,” Streuer tells TC / Tubantia.

He already had an ‘excellent conversation’ with El Ahmadi, but there is certainly no agreement yet. The midfielder hit the brakes last weekend by stating that he won’t make a decision about his career until August.

Because the competition is still being played in Saudi Arabia, El Ahmadi will be free on September 4. The Eredivisie starts a week later. Streuer waits and is not as pronounced as two days ago. “We keep in touch with Karim, but we have to go further ourselves,” he says.

Drum, Selahi and Schenk
Streuer hopes that goalkeeper Joël Drommel and midfielder Lindon Selahi will stay in Enschede this summer. The two have been linked to different clubs in recent weeks, but no concrete interest remains. Xandro Schenk can count on interest, from Cyprus by Apollon Limassol.

In the meantime, Twente needs ‘about twelve’ new players, according to Streuer. “We are busy, but we should not make hasty decisions. We still have some time.”
