Turkish District Court imposes total 1,128 years in prison on fake police officers – SWR Aktuell

Heilbronn police investigators, together with Turkish authorities, excavated an entire call center complex, and the Izmir District Court convicted the defendant.

At the end of September, the regional court in Izmir, Turkey, imposed a total of 1,128 years, 6 months and 28 days in prison and fines of more than 478 million Turkish lira (about 25 million euros) to a total of 67 suspects in a call center complex. The group also operated in Heilbronn with their scam as “fake cops”. Among other things, 16 acts were tried by the Heilbronn investigators with damages of 866,500 euros. The prosecutor’s office and the police headquarters in Heilbronn set up an investigation team in 2018, which processed the offenses of this call center in the “fake” investigation.

The Heilbronn prosecutor led the investigation

The investigators were able to assign the crimes of the federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate, North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse and Lower Saxony to the group. In close cooperation between the public prosecutor’s office and the Heilbronn criminal police, the investigations were conducted centrally by the Heilbronn public prosecutor’s office.

The people identified here, mostly people who picked them up and were logisticians of the Turkish group, have meanwhile also been sentenced in Heilbronn. After the investigation results were passed on to the Turkish authorities, the main perpetrators were arrested there in December 2020 after further extensive investigations.

105 million euros guaranteed

Cash, gold, vehicles and real estate were insured to the value of around 105 million euros. Turkish judicial authorities probably intend to provide victims living in Germany with guaranteed funds for compensation.

In a second request, the Heilbronn public prosecutor’s office asked the Turkish judicial authorities to take up another case in order to give other fraud victims a chance to obtain compensation.
