Tupac Shakur Murder Case: Arrest Made After 27 Years

Washington DC

The murder case of the legendary rapper of the United States (US), Tupac Shakur, entering a new chapter. Murderer Shakur arrested 27 years after the murder occurred.

Reported AFP, Saturday (30/9/2023), a man named Duane Davis (60) alias Keffe D actually admitted his involvement in Shakur’s murder in 1996. His confession was made long ago regarding the murder which shocked the US public.

Davis claimed he was the ‘field commander’ in the operation to kill Shakur and a figure in the world of rappers named Marion Knight alias Suge who was the boss of Death Row Records. He said the murder was carried out in revenge for the attack by the two victims on his nephew.

Davis was arrested by US police on Friday (29/9) morning local time as a follow-up to a police investigation that has been going on for the last 27 years. The investigation into the Shakur murder case was marked by police frustration over the lack of evidence that could be used to charge the suspects.

Two months before Davis’ arrest, local police raided Davis’ home in the Henderson area, just outside Las Vegas.

“There is a great presumption that he is responsible for the murder of Tupac Shakur and he will be found guilty of murder with the use of a deadly weapon,” said prosecutor Marc DiGiacomo while speaking at the trial in Nevada, USA.

Shakur had a short but meteoric career. He is known as the best-selling hip-hop artist with hits such as ‘California Love’, ‘Changes’, and ‘Dear Mama’.

Shakur also managed to sell 75 million records. Shakur is said to be one of the most influential figures in the world of hip-hop.

Shakur is a big star in the world of rap. He was shot dead in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996 when he was 25 years old.

Shakur is known to be signed to Death Row Records. The record company is said to be linked to the Los Angeles Mob Piru street gang which has had a long-standing feud with the Southside Compton Crips.

Prosecutor DiGiacomo said that on the day of the murder, Shakur and Knight — the co-founder of Death Row Records — were in Las Vegas to watch Mike Tyson’s boxing fight. The two of them are said to have brutally attacked a Crips member, Orlando Anderson, who is also Davis’ nephew while in a local hotel elevator.
