Tunisia: reopening of air and sea borders with the rest of the world

#Tunisia : Tunisia reopened, Saturday, June 27, its air and sea borders, closed since mid-March as part of measures to combat the spread of Covid-19.

This decision, which had been taken by the Tunisian government as part of the de-containment measures, is essentially aimed at rescuing the tourism sector severely impacted by the coronavirus crisis (covid-19).

As for the reopening of land borders, no date has yet been set.

As part of this measure, Tunisia has implemented an anti-Covid-19 tourism health protocol that includes 250 hygiene instructions.

Developed by the Ministry of Tourism, in accordance with WHO recommendations, this protocol, which aims to restore the confidence of tourists and travel agencies, is part of efforts to control the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic in tourist establishments and to ensure the health security of employees and tourists.

For tourists and expatriates, the Tunisian government has announced new measures for the entry of arrivals to Tunisia which depend on the epidemiological situation of the countries of residence.

New arrivals are distributed among countries with low epidemic prevalence, countries with medium epidemic spread, countries characterized by high spread of the virus.

In this context, it was decided that travelers from the first group will not be subject to specific preventive measures, while those arriving from the second group of countries where the spread of the virus is medium, will have to present a test of screening (RT-PCR), carried out before 72 hours, and not exceeding 120 hours, upon arrival in Tunisia.

For travelers from these two groups of countries (Tunisians or tourists) who wish to stay in a hotel, it is mandatory that they go to the hotel on board tourist buses that comply with the provisions of the Tunisian tourism health protocol. , in supervised groups. These groups will be subject to the requirements of “supervised residence” in hotels and are called upon to respect the health protocol of Tunisian tourism.

New health measures were published on Friday by the airline “Tunisair”, which are applicable on all flights until further notice.

This is the wearing of a mask which is compulsory throughout the trip (at check-in, when boarding, during the flight and when disembarking) for all passengers except for babies under 2 years of age.

Passengers are invited to respect a physical distance of at least one meter at the sales counter, check-in and boarding and plexiglass protections are installed as far as possible at airports.

The company also clarified that the planes are equipped with an air filtering system composed of high efficiency particulate filters (HEPA).

The tourism sector, which represents 20,000 direct jobs, nearly 5,000 indirect jobs, is facing an unprecedented crisis today.

According to the Central Bank of Tunisia, tourist receipts fell by 43%, to only one billion dinars (about 312 million euros) on June 20 last compared to the same period of the year last.

The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the activity of travel agencies has been enormous with losses of up to 300 million dinars (around 102 million euros), not to mention the shortfall which will be recorded during high season, said the president of the Federation of Travel and Tourism Agencies (FTAV), Jebeur Ben Attouch.
