The Pharmaceutical Safety and Development Center Fimea and the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency Tukes warn of the safety risks associated with the Lemon Bottle product.

According to the supervisory authorities, the safety of the product has not been studied and the information on the composition of the product is not reliable.

The Lemon Bottle product is also used in beauty care companies in Finland.

The treatment is marketed for fat removal, i.e. it is used as a so-called lipolysis treatment. According to the website of the manufacturer, the Korean pharmaceutical company Sid Medicos, the product is a combination of bromelain, riboflavin (vitamin B2) and lecithin.

In the Lemon Bottle treatment, injections are given directly to the areas from which fat is to be removed: the double chin, arms and lower abdomen.

Differences in composition

According to Tukes and Fimea, the laboratory of the Swiss Medicines Authority has examined the composition of the samples it received and stated that the composition of the injection liquid does not correspond to the composition declared by the manufacturer.

In the studies, the laboratory found significant differences in the composition of the product between the packages it examined.

In Switzerland, the product is classified as a medicine. The classification of the Lemon Bottle product is also underway in Finland. The preparation does not have a marketing authorization in Finland.

The British newspaper Guardian has reported that Lemon Bottle products have raised concerns among experts that there seems to be no clinical evidence for the product and no information on its long-term effectiveness and safety.

Fimea and Tukes advise to take a particularly cautious approach to injectable beauty products marketed on social media.

According to the authorities, lipolysis injections have attracted more attention recently and there are safety concerns associated with them, which are currently being investigated in more detail.
