At the Final Four tournament in Maxdorf, the First Palatinate League team with captain Sebastian Rapp defeated the TTC Germersheim II, which played one league lower, in an exciting and high-class final in the Palatinate League competition 4:3. This means that the Böbig team has qualified for the German Cup Championships for association classes. They will be held in Hamm in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region from May 26th to 29th.
“We thought we had a chance, but from my point of view the TTC Burrweiler was the favourite. We also had the necessary bit of luck and took our chance. Now we can play in the German Cup Championships. It will definitely be a great experience, which we look forward to with great anticipation,” said Jonas Reichling, who left TTV for professional reasons after the season and switched to TTC Büchelberg. Reichling, who celebrated his birthday on Saturday, became the match winner in the final: he won two individual games.
Arbogast remains undefeated
First, Sebastian Rapp had to admit defeat to Florian Arbogast, who was outstanding that day. The Germersheimer remained undefeated in both the semifinals and the final. Jonas Reichling with a four-set win against Julian Kracher and Oliver Triemer against Daniel Nasarow turned the game around. Triemer almost lost a 2:0 set lead, but found his way back at the right moment and asserted himself in the decisive round with 11:8.
In doubles, Rapp/Trimer had no chance in three sets against Arbogast/Nasarow. In the subsequent singles game, Rapp came into play better after clearly losing the first set against Karcher and celebrated a 3-1 win. Triemer was mostly at eye level against Arbogast without being able to prevent a four-set defeat.
Duttweiler is subject to Germersheim
Despite the 3-3 lead and the fact that it would now be up to him, Reichling showed no nerves. For two sentences he gave Nazarov few chances. But the man from Germersheim didn’t give up and fought his way into overtime in the third set. Here Reichling first missed match points, but did not let himself be unsettled and won 15:13.
In the semi-finals, the men from Böbig also defeated TTC Burrweiler 4:3. All three players each earned a single point. Jonas Reichling put the final point against the club where he once learned to play table tennis with a clear 3-0 win over Christoph Ackermann. Rapp and Triemer each won their games in the fifth set 11:9 and 12:10. In doubles, too, they kept the upper hand as a duo.
VfL Duttweiler had to say goodbye to Germersheim after a 2:4 semi-final loss. In the duel between the second in the table and the third in the 2nd Palatinate League East, Jochen Zeil defeated his longtime ex-club Julian Karcher. Schyam Vasanthakumar also prevailed against Karcher. More was not possible for VfL. The decisive factor was the defeat in doubles, when the youngster duo Vasanthakumar/Cedric Wald had to admit defeat against Arbogast/Nasarow in five sets. Philipp Amann was largely lost in both individual games.
